Cumberwell park Golf Club South West Week Cumberwell Park very proudly hosted the South West Counties Championship Week from Saturday 9th - Friday 15th June.

About South West Week: Teams of the very best amateur golfers in the South West from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Gloucester, Dorset and Wiltshire play each other in a round robin matchplay series of 8 singles and 4 foursomes with each singles match counting for a point and the foursomes 1.5 points.

There is also a 36 hole individual and team strokeplay Championship on the Tuesday where each county nominates 6 of their players whose aggregated scores determine the Team Championship.

The winning team then represents the South West in the English County Finals later in the year against representatives from the North, Midlands and South East to decide the English County Champions.


The Wiltshire Team which included Cumberwell's Ali James took the Team Strokeplay title by 25 shots which gives them the chance to defend there national title at Beau Desert later in the year.

Ben Loughrey from Wrag Barn took the individual title with a 36 hole score of 9 under par - rounds of 65 and 68!

Somerset took the matchplay title played for throughout the week with 3 wins and 2 draws in their 5 matches.
